What is Kapok?

At ästrid. studio, we believe that the materials used to make our products are just as important as the final product itself. That's why we use kapok for our pillow inlays.

Kapok is a natural, sustainable, and eco-friendly material that comes from the seed pods of the kapok tree. This tree is native to tropical regions and is known for its fast-growing nature and ability to thrive in poor soil conditions.

One of the biggest benefits of using kapok for our pillow inlays is its lightweight and fluffy nature. Kapok fibers are naturally hypoallergenic and moisture-resistant, making it an ideal filling material for pillows. It provides the perfect amount of support and comfort, without feeling too heavy or bulky.

Another advantage of using kapok is that it is a very sustainable resource. The kapok tree is not harmed in the process of harvesting its fibers, and the fibers can be collected without the use of any harmful chemicals.

We are proud to source our Kapok from a farm in Ireland called Apple Oaks Fibre Works. They proudly run as a circular-economy business, operating with sustainable and eco-friendly practices. All of their dyeing is done with harvested rainwater and all dye water is recycled through engineered reed-bed and plant bed systems. All of their natural dye matter is composted in the wormery and turned into beautiful rich organic compost.

For a 16x16in pillow lightly packed ästrid. studio needs around 550g; solidly packed 1100g.

Because shipping is expensive to Korea, 1kg of Kapok will cost around 70,000 won to make. We hope that in the future we will be able to lower the price and make the pillow inlet more accessible to everyone.

It is ideal for stuffing cushions, dolls, upholstery and much more. Perfect for anybody who reacts to sheep-wool or prefers a vegan stuffing material.

At ästrid. studio, we are dedicated to using sustainable and eco-friendly materials in all our products. We believe that using kapok for our pillow inlays is not only good for the environment but also for the comfort and well-being of our customers.

Although this make the price of the pillow inlays a bit higher, but it's worth it. If you're looking for a pillow that provides both support and comfort, our kapok-filled pillow inlays are the perfect choice.
